Through Carding Mill Valley

Looking through Carding Mill Valley at Church Stretton near the river. The distant background hill was painted first in a thin wash before the dark background of the trees on the left was done in one wash wet in wet using a variety of colours and tones. When the wash was dry light areas were lifted with a brush after first damping the paper. Lighter branches were then painted with body colour which dried to the correct level of tone for the surrounds. The light areas on the tree trunks were lifted from the dark first wash.
