More detail was added to the boats, and the figures and reflections put in. The tone of the foreground water was strengthened and random very strong darks dotted in to suggest debris on the surface. Some of these were done, not with a brush, but with a sharpened stick loaded with paint. Doing this can give a different sort of mark to that from a brush which gives a variety of mark.
