I Used an old photograph as a reference to make a preliminary sketch and a couple of quick notan sketches to work out spacing and compositional layout. This helps to make judgements before committing watercolour to paper with.

The paper was Saunders Not 140 lbs. weight. I would have preferred a rough surface which gives better granulation and texture which I always prefer for landscape work.

Preliminary sketches
